BITS Pilani Dubai Campus collaborated with Seven Seas Technology to build a Digital workspace primarily over an on-premises hosted Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) based out of their existing state-of-the-art data center. Seven Seas Technology delivered the solution with a combination of Nutanix, Citrix and HP Thin Client PC Technologies.
OBJECTIVE
The objective of the project was to provide a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environment that will enable Students to access course module-based applications and on-premise resources securely from both external and internal networks based on the user’s security level permissions. The project aimed to adopt certain industry standard practices like Centrally managed deployment of applications, Monitoring of end points and Establish control on user profile to simplify security, protect intellectual and ensure data privacy. Reducing the carbon footprint is achieved by utilizing Thin client PC in IT LABs.
OUTCOME
Enhanced control over data access and compliance. Data remains in the data center, reducing any risk of data leakage and ensure compliance with industry regulations.
Agility while provisioning new desktop instances have become swifter compared to setting up of new physical machines.
Better IT Hardware resource utilization and scalability as resources are shared dynamically among virtual desktops, optimizing resource utilization and reducing hardware costs.
Improved business continuity and Enhanced user experience by switching VDI instances in the event of hardware failures or issues, minimizing downtime.
VDI contributes to reduced energy consumption by around 30% and thus smaller carbon footprint.
